Land Acknowledgement
I am a settler on Turtle Island, specifically within the traditional territories of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishinaabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples. This territory is part of the “Dish with One Spoon” Treaty between the Anishinaabeg, Mississaugas and Haudenosaunee, an agreement by all inhabitants to share and protect the land and to care for its resources responsibly. Subsequent Indigenous Nations and Peoples, settlers, newcomers and refugees have been invited into this treaty in the spirit of peace, friendship and respect.
I am grateful to live, work and build community in this place, but recognize the colonial violence against Indigenous people that has preceded me and continues to this day. I am committed to continuing to uphold my Treaty responsibilities and holding others accountable to do the same.
